The Indian team for the five-match T20I series against West Indies was announced by the BCCI on Wednesday, July 5. The squad was released just a day after Ajit Agarkar was appointed as the chairman of the Senior Men’s Selection Committee and the board has feasibly decided to rest big names like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Mohammed Shami among others.
The squad features some familiar, expected faces, but has its own share of surprise selections as well. As expected, Hardik Pandya will continue to lead the T20I side in the series with Surya Kumar Yadav as his deputy. Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan, Surya Kumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Kuldeep Yadav Umran Malik, Arshdeep Singh, and Yuzvendra Chahal have retained their spots in the T20I set-up after the Kiwi series in February earlier this year.
Jitesh Sharma, Prithvi Shaw, Shivam Mavi, Deepak Hooda, Washington Sundar, and Rahul Tripathi are the ones among those who couldn’t retain their spots. The five-match T20I series will get underway on August 3 and will go on till August 13. The series will start from Trinidad, then move to Guyana and then finish in Florida, US.
India’s T20I squad: Ishan Kishan (wk), Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Varma, Surya Kumar Yadav (VC), Sanju Samson (wk), Hardik Pandya (C), Axar Patel, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravi Bishnoi, Arshdeep Singh, Umran Malik, Avesh Khan, Mukesh Kumar.
Here in this article, we will name three players who missed out on India’s T20I squad against the Windies:
Rinku Singh:
Rinku Singh was without a doubt, the biggest find of this year’s IPL. He lit up the IPL with his outstanding finishing skills and towering sixes. Batting for KKR at the No.5 and No.6, he was amazing with his hard-hitting knocks. The historic finish against defending champions Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad, where he hit five consecutive sixes off the last five balls was one of the best moments in the IPL. His 48(21) was one of the best quickfire innings in IPL history and that impossible finish will always go down in the history books. With an inspirational story of hard work and commitment, the 25-year-old deserved a spot. To sum up his season in numbers, he scored 474 runs at a stunning strike rate of 149.52 and a massive average of 59.25. His season included numerous innings batting down the order and was one of the biggest positives in the inexperienced KKR squad.
