According to Gianni Infantino, the President of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), the ticket sales for the Women’s World Cup 2023 have surpassed the magical mark of one million. With that, the ninth edition of the prestigious FIFA tournament, in all likelihood, will become the most attended standalone women’s sporting event in history, surpassing the previous Women’s World Cup 2019 in France.

The FIFA President revealed that 1,032,884 tickets have already been sold for the quadrennial football tournament, which will be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand, during July and August of this year.

The first match of the Women’s World Cup will be played on July 20, between New Zealand and Norway, the winners of the 1995 edition, at Eden Park in Auckland. On the same day, Australia will take on the Republic of Ireland at the Stadium Australia in Sydney. These two opening matches of the prestigious tournament will be watched by over 100,000 people in the stadium.

Gianni Infantino took to Instagram to send out a collab post with the FIFA Women’s World Cup account. It read, “Delighted to share with the world that FIFA has passed one million tickets sold for this year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup, to be co-hosted by Australia & New Zealand!”

“As I write this, 1,032,884 tickets have been sold. This means that with over one month to go before kick-off, we have surpassed the numbers sold for France 2019, thus meaning that 🇦🇺 Australia & 🇳🇿 New Zealand 2023 is on track to become the most attended FIFA Women’s World Cup in history. The future is women - and thanks to the fans for supporting what will be the greatest FIFA Women's World Cup ever!” added the Swiss-Italian national.

The 53-year-old administrator also talked about the build-up of momentum for the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia, New Zealand, and all over the world. Furthermore, Gianni Infantino reiterated that he looks forward to having fans watch the women’s football stars performing on the world stage this summer.
