Veteran golfer Tiger Woods is likely to be unavailable for the Ryder Cup as he has still not completely recovered from a car accident he survived in February this year. Notably, Woods has been involved in several roles in the last four international competitions. He was the playing captain in the United States' win at the 2019 Presidents Cup, a player at the Ryder Cup in 2018 and a vice-captain in the 2016 Ryder Cup.

Moreover, he was also involved as the captain's assistant for the 2017 Presidents Cup with Steve Stricker being the captain.

"He's been, you know, obviously in my ear a lot and I call him pretty regularly," Stricker who has yet again been the captain in Woods' absence at the Ryder Cup said as quoted in an official PGA Tour release.

"He's part of our Ryder Cup team. He's part of what we do," he added.

It is being learned that Woods' role would vary from texting the captains to having a few video calls with players. Stricker has also revealed that some of the US players even paid a visit to his South Florida home.

"I think it's just not a good time for him to be here physically because of where he's at in his rehabilitation and (Whistling Straits is a) tough course to walk," Stricker said.

"Everybody is going to see it, from tee-to-green, it's difficult. So probably won't show up. But he's getting better and his focus and mine is on making a comeback to play again. We don't want to get in the way of that because we would all love to see him come back and play," he further said.

Meanwhile, this is set to be the first time that Woods will not be on-site for a Cup competition since the 2015 Presidents Cup in South Korea. Even then he was constantly texting the captains while watching the competition from his home in Florida while under rehabilitation for ailing back.

It remains unclear as to when Woods will be able to make a return on the golf course. In an earlier video, he was spotted in Los Angeles exerting some pressure on his right leg with crutches.
