Three-time Open Championship winner Tiger Woods has been having injury-prone years as the golfer has just five PGA Tour starts since October 2020, during that time frame, Woods has undergone back surgery and then suffered a car crash in February 2021. Tiger Woods' major season now seems to be over as he is ruled out of the 151st Open, scheduled to take place next month at Royal Liverpool as he continues to recover from his ankle surgery.

A shortened Masters appearance where he finished 47th after withdrawing mid-tournament at the PGA Championship and missing the cut in the 150th Open at St Andrew's, will be his only appearance on a major stage in 2023 because of his surgery. Woods underwent surgery in New York to fuse his ankle -- primarily done to alleviate pain after playing at the Genesis Invitational and the Masters.

“We have been advised that Tiger will not be playing at Royal Liverpool," an R&A spokesperson said. "We wish him all the best with his recovery,” the spokesperson continued. Woods has won three Opens and has been part of a stunning 15-major career victories in total. However, his body has not recovered well enough for him to play in Liverpool.

Despite the injury concerns, Woods is not ready to retire and plans to come back after his recovery is still unclear when the 47-year-old will return to action.
