Tottenham have reportedly agreed a deal to sign Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel on loan until the end of the ongoing season without an option to buy. It is understood that Mathys Tel, who is France’s U21 player, had rejected various approaches from the North London club earlier this year, but now, the deal is set to go through hours before the transfer deadline on Monday, February 3.
In a picture posted on social media earlier today, Mathys Tel was boarding a private jet with his agent Gadiri Camara, which is expected to arrive in London. If the deal between Tottenham and Bayern Munich for Mathys Tel goes through, then the England-based club would be able to announce their second signing in two days after they had brought in Austrian defender Kevin Danso from Lens on a loan deal yesterday.
Ange Postecoglou spoke with Mathys Tel at length earlier today and convinced him to come to Tottenham
As per Julien Laurens, the expert in European football, stated that Ange Postecoglou, the manager of Tottenham, urged Mathys Tel to join the club instead of going to other clubs he was linked with, including Manchester United. “Ange Postecoglou spoke with Mathys Tel at length earlier today and convinced him to come to Tottenham. Huge role played by the Spurs manager to get one of the most coveted youngsters in Europe,” said Julien Laurens, as per BBC Sport.
Notably, Tottenham managed to register their first Premier League win in eight matches after defeating Brentford 2-0 at the Gtech Community Stadium on Sunday, February 2. With their first league win in the year 2025, the North London club jumped up a place to 14th spot in the standings, leapfrogging West Ham, and they will be looking to push themselves ahead for the rest of the season.
Moreover, despite their poor form in the Premier League, Tottenham have made the last 16 of the UEFA Europa League comfortably, while they are a step away from reaching the final of the League Cup if they beat Liverpool at Anfield in the second leg.
