Towhid Hridoy, the Bangladesh cricketer, has been given a four-match ban with immediate effect for breaching the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Code of Conduct for players and player support personnel in regard to the Dhaka Premier League (DPL). As the captain of Mohammedan Sporting Club, the 24-year-old, who has been a part of Bangladesh in white-ball cricket for 77 matches, showed dissent at the umpire’s decision, which led to his four-match match.
The incident happened during the DPL match between Mohammedan Sporting Club and against Gazi Group Cricketers, which was played at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on April 26, 2025. As per the report published in Cricbuzz, Towhid Hridoy stood on ground for some time after getting caught out in the match, which led to the charges being brought against him by the on-field umpires Moniruzzaman Tinku and Ali Arman Rajon, third umpire Muhammad Kamruzzaman, and fourth official ATM Ikram.
Towhid Hridoy was given a ban of one-match earlier, but it was revoked due to players voicing against it
It is important to note that Towhid Hridoy was given a ban of one-match earlier, but the BCB had to take their decision back after some players made their voices heard against it. Moreover, in their official statement, BCB detailed how the player was banned for his recent offence, “Mr. Hridoy denied the charge and opted to contest it at a full disciplinary hearing. However, despite prior communication, he failed to appear at the hearing scheduled in the umpires' dressing room.”
With that, the match referee Akhtar Ahmed applied the Clause 5.2.6 of the BCB Code of Conduct for DPL, and fined Towhid Hridoy Taka 10,000 apart from giving him a demerit point. He was found guilty of Level 1 offence under Article 2.8 of the BCB Code of Conduct in regards to “showing Dissent at an Umpire's Decision during a Match." Level 1 offences carry a minimum sanction of a warning and a maximum penalty of Taka 40,000 and/or one (1) or two (2) demerit points.”
“This latest demerit point brings Mr. Hridoy's total to eight (8) demerit points, including seven (7) accumulated from previous breaches. As a result, he will serve a four (4)-match suspension, effective immediately,” the BCB statement further read.
