A big news is coming from the e-sports arena and this time it's related to the American video live streaming service Twitch. Notably, Twitch has announced some massive changes in its subscription prices which are set to pertain not only to its user base in the United States but to most countries who are able to access the service. It is being learned that Twitch is going to adjust its subscription prices based on the price of living.
The platform has reportedly made this decision after a careful study of a few statistics from other parts of the world. It was derived that people from other countries tend to avoid subscribing since the $5 fee is a bit expensive based on the price of living in that region. They came to conclusion after comparing numbers of North America with other continents.
Changes set to take effect on May 20 with Mexico and Turkey
"The percentage of active users in Europe or Asia who support creators with a subscription is roughly 50% lower than North America. In Latin America, it’s nearly 80% lower," Twitch said in an official statement made public on social media.
The changes in prices are set to take effect on May 20 with Mexico and Turkey. However, this will lead to another problem as lowered subscription prices will therefore mean less money for the creators. But in the long run, fans are expected to find it affordable to subscribe to the service and a rise in the subscription is likely to more than makeup for the less money for now. The subscription rates in South East Asia and Latin America are expected to increase.
"This change will make it easier for creators everywhere to grow their communities while making it more affordable for viewers to show their support and access subscriber benefits like ad-free viewing (when enabled by the creator), custom channel emotes, sub tenure badges, Channel Point multipliers, and sub-only chat mode," Twitch's official statement added.
