Amid increasing prices of petrol in the country, the organisers of a local cricket tournament in Madhya Pradesh's Bhopal decided to give away 5 litre of petrol to the Man of the Match awardee. Lately, petrol prices climbed to a record 91.17 per litre in Delhi on February 27- which made it the 16th time the fuel prices went up last month. In fact, several memes had also emerged which suggested to take out the helmet and look skywards as a cricketer celebrates his century as petrol prices breached the 100-mark in some parts of the country.

The unique award was reportedly won by a cricketer named Salauddin Abbasi. The award became an instant topic of discussion among the Twitterati. While some hailed the move as being practical, some found it agenda driven.

Here are some of the best reactions on social media:

Amid the rise in prices, a petrol pump in Tamil Nadu recently came up with an idea of giving away petrol for free. Parents of school-going children were eligible for participation in this contest and could get petrol if they are able to recite Thirukkural couplets. The petrol pump, owned by Valluvar agencies near Nagampalli village, joined the offer on January 16 to mark the celebration of Thiruvalluvar Day - in memory of the great Tamil poet and philosopher.
