The so called 'underdogs' Lille held their composure to claim their first Ligue 1 title in 10 years following a narrow away victory over Angers (2-1) on Sunday. Christophe Galtier's players knew that a win on the road would ensure that Paris Saint-Germain's result in Brest would become meaningless for them. The table-toppers put in a professional performance to secure their 24th league victory, with Jonathan David's 10th-minute opener proving to be the difference. Although Angelo Fulgini pulled one back for Angers late in stoppage time, that was not enough to stop Lille as Burak Yilmaz had already kept the side up with a two-goal difference.

Lille have been here before, despite their reputation as an 'underdog'. Eden Hazard and Gervinho were part of a team that helped the northern French side win their third Ligue 1 title and their first in 57 years in 2010/11. This season, they've relied on David, a 21-year-old Canadian forward, and Yilmaz, a 35-year-old Turkish striker.

Soon after the Les Dogues claimed the title, wishes started pouring in for them, with the fans hailing the side for their remarkable achievement.

Here are some of the best tweets by the football fans on Lille's victory:

The final match day had a lot of drama, not in just Ligue 1 but other leagues in Europe as well. Clubs fought until the very last minute to secure their place in the next season's Champions League football. In Serie A, Juventus qualified for the Champions League with a 4-1 victory over Bologna. Napoli were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Verona, which dropped them into Europa. Chelsea lost to Aston Villa in Premier League, yet managed to grab a spot in top-4 of the standings.
