T20 franchise cricket leagues are the next big thing in the cricketing landscape. While they not only offer more and more cricketers to announce themselves at the big stage, it also helps some of the domestic cricketers to earn substantial money to lead a decent life. However, even amid several leagues around the world, the Indian Premier League (IPL) has managed to build a reputation of its own. It is easily the biggest T20 spectacle on the planet purely because of the level of cricket on display in this competition and the overseas stars that enrich the league.

Cricketers from all around the world closely follow the IPL. How successful IPL has become can be gauged by the fact that several people use the IPL as synonymous with T20 leagues. But it cannot be expected by a broadcaster on air. However, that’s exactly what happened with former Pakistan cricketer Ramiz Raja. While commentating in the ongoing Pakistan Super League match between Multan Sultans and Karachi Kings, Raja mistakenly mentioned PSL as IPL after the first over of the match. But given that they are, in fact, rival leagues from countries that do not particularly share a pleasant relationship, the same has not been received too well by the fans.

T20 leagues serious threat to international cricket: Faf du Plessis

Earlier, former South Africa captain Faf du Plessis, who is also playing in the PSL, had termed T20 leagues as a potential threat to international cricket.

“T20 leagues are a threat for international cricket. The power of the leagues are growing year by year and obviously, in the beginning, there might be just 2 leagues around the world and now it is becoming 4,5, 6,7 leagues in a year. The leagues are just getting stronger,” he said in a virtual media interaction ahead of the PSL.
