Star Wars Outlaws, an upcoming open-world narrative-driven game from Massive Entertainment, the studio behind Tom Clancy's The Division 1 & 2 was unveiled on Sunday at Microsoft's Xbox Games Showcase. The company intends to present a complete gameplay walkthrough at Monday's Ubisoft Forward event, so even if no gameplay was presented during Sunday's demo, the wait is not that long.

It was discovered that Star Wars Outlaws takes place between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi in a press statement issued immediately after the announcement. According to the press release, gamers will take on the role of Kay Vess as she and her buddy Nix "attempt one of the greatest heists the Outer Rim has ever seen."

An even more intriguing claim made in the press release is that Star Wars Outlaws is the "first open-world Star Wars game." According to Douglas Reilly, vice president of Lucasfilm Games, Star Wars Outlaws will be "an action-adventure story filled with characters and planets both new and well-known to the Star Wars galaxy."

It was first learnt that Ubisoft would be creating a Star Wars game in 2021. Sean Shoptaw, SVP of Walt Disney Games, claimed that Ubisoft persuaded the firm to produce a Star Wars game after their initial meeting, which was meant to explore Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, in an interview with IGN after the game's formal announcement. The release of Star Wars Outlaws is anticipated for 2024.
