It was rather an unlucky day for the South African batter Rassie van der Dussen as he was given out by the on-field umpire despite the ball bouncing just before being collected by the wicketkeeper. The Protea batter could not even review the decision and had to walk off the field. The incident took place right before the lunch break on Day 2 of the second Test between India and South Africa.
On the fourth ball of the 45th over of South Africa’s first innings, Shardul Thakur bowled a cracker of a delivery cutting the batsman into two halves. Van der Dussen could not do much but edge it to the wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant who completed the catch to dismiss the batter. However, when the replays were shown on the big screen later, it was noticed that the ball had touched the grass before Pant collected it in his gloves.

Rassie van der Dussen was running hard on luck right from the moment he walked out to bat. After facing a few deliveries, van der Dussen looked in all sorts of trouble when he was given out caught behind by the on-field umpire off Mohammad Shami’s bowling. However, the Proteas batter survived the call with DRS. The replays showed that there was no bat involved and the ball had instead brushed Dussen’s pads. The replay also showed the ball clearly bouncing before Rishabh Pant.
Meanwhile, India have slowly started making inroads into South Africa’s batting, all thanks to Shardul Thakur’s brilliant spell of 5-odd overs. The Indian pacer took three quick wickets and conceded only eight runs to push SA on backfoot and allow India to attack after the Lunch break. But there is still a lot of job left for the Indian bowlers as Temba Bavuma stands intact at the crease.
