After losing their Women's Premier League 2024 opener, both UP Warriorz and Delhi Capitals squared off against each other on Monday at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru and the Meg Lanning-led Capitals came on top to win their first match of the season. After winning the toss, Delhi Capitals restricted UP Warriorz at 119 runs and chased the targets with nine wickets in hand.
Apart from Shweta Sherawat (45-off-42), no UP batter stayed on the pitch for a longer period as Radha Yadav (4 wickets) and Marizanne Kapp (3 wickets) of the Capitals ran through their batting order. Skipper Meg Lanning and Shafali Yadav's half-centuries helped Delhi win the game by 10 wickets.
Delhi Capitals won the toss and invited UP Warriorz to bat first, restricting them to 119 runs at a loss of nine wickets. Marizanne Kapp recorded a spectacular bowling figure as she picked three wickets in four overs and gave away just five runs. Radha Yadav also had an amazing night with the ball as she picked four wickets in four overs.
During the chase, the target looked tiny in front of the opening pair of Meg Lanning and Shafai Yadav. While the Indian opener smashed an unbeaten 43-ball-64 with the help of four sixes and six fours, Meg Lanning (51) was close to leading their side to a 10-wicket win, however, lost her wicket when the scores were level.
With this win, the Capitals climbed to the second spot in the WPL 2024 standings with three points in two matches while the Warriorz have managed the bottom spot with two losses.
