Valorant developers Riot Games are known to pack surprises during big events, especially during international tournaments. This year appears to be no different as the company plans to announce a new map based on the city of Los Angeles during Valorant’s 2023 Champions Final. The map was teased during a recent video that Riot released showing the characters Deadlock, who is the game’s most recent agent addition, along with Cypher. Fans took to social media to discuss the video and break down all the little hints Riot incorporated into the teaser.
The video features Deadlock and Cypher discussing recent movements for Kingdom, which is a corporation within the video game’s extensive lore. It shows footage of places in Kingdom, within the company’s facility, and fans noticed that a lot of the design seems to be inspired by California. Palm trees and hills are seen around the pictures, reminiscent of Los Angeles iconic landscape.
Fans also noticed that one of the highways featured in the teaser is almost exactly a replica of a real life road in Los Angeles. Fans familiar with Valorant lore also noticed that the player card at the end of the episode 7 act one battle pass, which is called the golden hour playing card, might be a reference to California, which is commonly called the Golden State.
The post also states that fans will receive more information on August 26th, which is also the date that the Grand Finals are set to be played at Champions 2023.
Valorant Champions 2023 features massive USD 2.5 Million prize pool
Riot have made it a priority to establish their international esports events as some of the biggest spectacles that the esports genre can look forward to every year. They have a good track record with their main game, League of Legends, and are looking to follow through with Valorant also.
Champions 2023 has a massive prize pool of USD 2.5 million, with the lion’s share going to the grand finals winners. The top four teams will receive prize money as recognition of their performance. On top of this, the winning team will have skins created in their honor and will earn a portion of proceeds from that skin line for the duration of one year.
