26-year-old right-handed batter Samarth Vyas became only the fifth batter to smash a double-century in the Vijay Hazare Trophy as he scored 200 off just 131 deliveries for Saurashthra in Delhi on Sunday.

While playing against Manipur, Samarth Vyas joined the elite list of batters comprising Karn Veer Kaushal, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson and Prithvi Shaw.  Vyas put up a brilliant show as he stitched a 282-run opening stand with Harvik Desai, who amassed 100 of 107 balls, as Saurashtra posted 397 for 4.

In response, Manipur bundled out at 115 handing over a second straight victory to Saurashtra in the competition. Notably, Saurashtra opened their campaign with a seven-wicket win over Chandigarh, with Vyas scoring 64-ball 61 while chasing 216.

Speaking of the Saurashtra batter, Vyas has been in excellent form as he also topped the run charts for Saurashtra at the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy earlier this month. Vyas smashed 314-runs in seven innings at the strike rate of 177.40 with his best (97*) coming against Nagaland.

Vyas was the highest run-getter in the tournament as he guided Saurashtra to the semi-finals. Vyas made his List A debut in 2015 but recently became a regular member of the team. He started as a middle-order batter but has moved up the order of late after team management pushed him up to bat in the top three. Prithvi Shaw's 227* against Puducherry in the previous season remains the highest score.

Meanwhile, Services caused the biggest upset of the tournament as they stunned Mumbai by eight wickets by successfully chasing down 265 with 27 balls remaining. The Services opener - Shubham Rohilla and Ravi Chauhan - smashed centuries as their opening stand of 231 put Services in the commanding position.
