Days after Sri Lanka captain and star spinner Wanindu Hasaranga officially withdrew from the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have signed Vijaykanth Viyaskanth as a replacement for the remainder of the tournament.

Speaking about Hasaranga’s replacement, Vijaykanth, a leg-spinner from Sri Lanka, has represented his country in a solitary T20 International so far. He joins the Tata IPL at his base price of INR 50 Lakh.

This update comes after the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) informer the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that the leg-spinner is injured and will not be able to take part in the IPL 2024. “I believe so,” Hasaranga’s manager Shyam informed Cricbuzz. “Sri Lanka Cricket has written to the BCCI informing them about his unavailability. He went to Dubai for medical advice and stayed for three days. Given the current situation, the expert’s advice is that he should rest rather than participate in the IPL this season,” he further added.

The 26-year-old was roped in by the SunRisers Hyderabad (RH) for INR 1.5 Crore after he was released by the then Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) after the 2023 edition. Prior to his inclusion in the SRH squad, the RCB roped him for a whopping INR 10.75 Crore.
