Viktor Gyokeres, the Sweden and Sporting Lisbon striker, is reportedly open to joining Manchester United in the ongoing summer transfer window, to reunite with former manager Ruben Amorim. It was earlier reported that Viktor Gyokeres was out of bounds for Manchester United because of their failure to secure UEFA Champions League (UCL) football for next season, but now, the situation has changed completely.
As per the report published in talkSPORT, Sporting Lisbon want to sell Viktor Gyokeres for £60 million, which is £25 million less than the release clause in his current contract after a verbal agreement with the club in regard to staying in Portugal for the 2024-25 season. But, for Manchester United to start formal talks with Sporting Lisbon about the 27-year-old, they will have to generate funds to pay the transfer fee, which is going to be quite dependent on the players going out of the club this summer.
Ruben Amorim is in touch with Viktor Gyokeres after successful stint together at Sporting Lisbon
It is understood that Ruben Amorim has stayed in touch with Viktor Gyokeres after their successful stint together at Sporting Lisbon, which might have persuaded him to consider a move to Manchester United. Even though the Red Devils might have an upper hand in this regard, they could get stiff competition from Arsenal for the signature of the Swedish striker, especially with the latter also interested in the player of the similar profile.
While Chelsea have already unveiled striker Liam Delap from Ipswich Town as their new signing, they are still looking to add to the strength and depth of their attacking side of things with Viktor Gyokeres since Christopher Nkunku is expected to leave in the summer. Some of the other clubs who are connected with the Sporting Lisbon player include Juventus, Liverpool, Al-Ittihad, and Al-Qadsiah.
