The Wall Street Journal, the American business newspaper based in New York City, reported that Vince McMahon is subject to investigation by the federal authorities in his sex trafficking case. They are also interviewing Janel Grant, who had accused the longtime WWE boss of sexual misconduct during their time in the promotion, as part of a probe that started almost two years ago, which included a grand jury subpoena and a search warrant for his phone.
The details of the lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court in Connecticut, alleged that Mr. McMahon, who was subject to an internal investigation in 2022 regarding misconduct allegations, sexually exploited and trafficked Janel Grant from 2019 to 2022. The defendants named in the case are the WWE themselves, along with one of their executives John Laurinaitis.
The lawsuit is seeking to void the non-disclosure agreement, which Grant was pressured into signing by McMahon after agreeing to pay her $3 million in exchange for not speaking about their relationship to anyone. It also seeks unspecified amounts in punitive damages and legal fees.
Since the details about the sex-trafficking lawsuit surfaced, Vince McMahon resigned from his role as the CEO of the WWE’s parent company TKO Group. But still, he reportedly told the Wall Street Journal about how the probe would not lead to them finding out about any wrongdoing.
