With the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 right on the horizon, retired cricketer Yuvraj Singh was in an exclusive interview with the broadcaster Star Sports alongside counterpart Shahid Afridi, where he shared his thoughts on his former Indian teammate, Virat Kohli. The 43-year-old stated that over the long course of a player’s career, their form can go up and down in regards to Virat Kohli before calling him the best player of his generation.

Over the past few months, Virat Kohli has struggled for consistency with the bat at the international level, especially in the Test format, which has meant that he is a bit low on runs before heading into the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. But at the same time, the 36-year-old has arguably been the most consistent performer for the Indian cricket team in the ICC tournaments, playing a major role in winning the ODI World Cup, T20 World Cup, and Champions Trophy during the course of his career.

I call him King Kohli. He has been a mighty Virat for many years: Yuvraj Singh

Ahead of the Champions Trophy’s latest edition, Yuvraj Singh spoke in detail about Virat Kohli and his form to Star Sports, “Main unko King Kohli bolta hu. Maha Virat toh wo kaafi saalo se hai. Form ka jaha tak kehna hai, form 15-18 saal ke career mein upar niche hogi hi. Par aapko unka graph dekhna chahiye. (I call him King Kohli. He has been a mighty Virat for many years. “I  think hamari generation ka best player hai of all formats (I think he is the best player of all formats in our generation). There is no comparison,” the former cricketer added. During the course of their cricketing careers, Virat Kohli and Yuvraj Singh played with each other, not only for the Indian cricket team, but also for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in the year 2016, attaining a lot of success individually and as members of their sides.

Moreover, the first match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 for the Indian cricket team will happen at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on February 20, just three days before the highly anticipated clash against the arch-rivals Pakistan.
