Since the shocking elimination from the T20 World Cup 2022, Team India has experienced a few notable changes at the helm of the squad for the next T20 World Cup scheduled in 2024. While Hardik Pandya is expected to succeed Rohit Sharma as T20I captain, a former Indian cricketer has made a bold prediction involving two senior Indian cricketers.
According to Wasim Jaffer, Rohit Sharma might not play the next T20 World Cup as he is already 36 but feels Virat Kohli may make the cut. “I don’t see Rohit Sharma playing in the next T20 World Cup, from a personal perspective. Virat Kohli may play, but Rohit Sharma definitely won’t play the next edition. He is already 36,” Jaffer told Ex-Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali on his YouTube channel.
“Virat and Rohit were rested from the T20Is against Sri Lanka and New Zealand. Looking at the bigger picture, it's important they are mentally fresh and ready for the Australia series. I don’t think they need a guiding force. They have played so much of cricket in the IPL, they they don’t need someone to guide them in the middle,” Jaffer added.
After a short break, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will be back in action in four-match Test series against Australia. While Kohli started the year with back-to-back hundreds against Sri Lanka, Rohit Sharma too looked in sublime touch as he ended his century drought in the 3rd ODI against New Zealand.
