Star batter Virat Kohli has been benched from the playing XI as India are set to take on England for the first ODI against England at Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur. Notably, England won the toss in the first ODI of three-match series and elected to bat first. England already announced their playing Xi on the eve of the match with Joe Root returning to the lineup after 15 months.
Talking about India, skipper Rohit Sharma announced the playing XI after the toss and also made a shocking announcement that Virat Kohli will not be seen playing in today’s match due to knee issues. Kohli was last seen playing an ODI match against Sri Lanka in August 2024. He also recently played for Delhi in a Ranji Trophy clash against Railways. However, the 36-year-old has to wait for one more game to make his ODI return.

As soon as the news of Virat Kohli not playing the first ODI against England came out, the fans come with different reactions on social media. Notably, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Harshit Rana will also be seen making their ODI debut as they have been included in the playing XI for the first ODi against England. However, Kohli had to sit out in Nagpur due to knee issues. The fans are also anticipating that he recovers on time ahead of the Champions Trophy 2025.
