Star India batter and former skipper of the side Virat Kohli recently made some startling comments on his retirement. Speaking at the RCB Innovation Lab Indian Sports Summit on Saturday, March 15, Kohli opened up on his plans after calling it quits. In the same event, he also dropped a big statement on taking a possible u-turn from retirement in order to feature in the Olympic Games.
It is to be noted that Virat Kohli, along with senior India batter and captain Rohit Sharma and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja announced retirement from T20Is after India’s title win at the T20 World Cup 2024. However, in the event, Kohli hinted that he might make a comeback for a gold medal match for the side.
If we are playing for the gold medal, I may….: Virat Kohli
With the quadrennial Games scheduled to be held in 2028 in Los Angeles, the 36-year-old stated that if the team makes it through the gold medal match, he might think of coming out of retirement for just one match. "So many T20 leagues are played all over the world, and I think that IPL has definitely played a massive role in that as well. It has brought cricket to a stage where it is part of the Olympics. It's a great opportunity for some of our guys," Virat Kohli said.

Furthermore, when asked about his interest in participating in the 2028 LA Games, Virat Kohli responded, “No. For the Olympics? Maybe? If we are playing for the gold medal, I may come back for one game (laughs). Get a medal and come back home. It is a great thing. To be an Olympic champion would be a magnificent feeling, the first of its kind.”
Speaking of cricket, the game is set to mark its return into the Olympic Games after earlier being a part in 1900 with just Great Britan and France in the mix. The tournament will be played in the T20 format, featuring both men as well as women.
