Here in this article, we will have a look at comparison of how India has performed under Kohli's captaincy when compared to other Indian captains.

Indian men's team haven't been able to win an ICC trophy despite reaching knockout stages most times. The side last won an ICC trophy back in 2013 under the leadership of MS Dhoni. Recently, India's star batter Virat Kohli claimed that he was considered as a failed captain despite India reaching finals in Champions Trophy 2017, Semi-Finals in WC 2019 & and Final in WTC 2021.

Virat Kohli has been most successful captain of India in Test history. The 34-year-old has won all the home Test Series that was played under his tenure from 2015-2021 and also when India was struggling to win Test games at SENA conditions from 2011-2014/15 phase ,  India beat AUS by 2-1 in 2018/19 Test series on AUS soil and also IND lead ENG by 2-1 margin 2021 Test series on ENG soil.

India's Test wins on SENA countries under Kohli's captaincy:
- Beat SA by 63 runs in Johannesburg, 2018
- Beat ENG by 203 runs in Nottingham, 2018
- Beat AUS by 31 runs in Adelaide, 2018
- Beat AUS by 137 runs in Melbourne, 2018
- Beat ENG by 151 runs in Lord's, 2021
- Beat ENG by 157 runs in The Oval, 2021
- Beat SA by 113 runs in Centurion, 2021

Despite the loss in WTC'21 final, India has been the best side in WTC'19-21 cycle with a historic 2-1 series win against AUS in 2020/21 series under Rahane's captaincy.

Most wins as Indian captain in ODIs:
MS Dhoni - 110 (200 matches) -  Win% : 59.52
Mohammad Azharuddin - 90 (174 matches) - Win% : 54.16
Sourav Ganguly - 76 (146 matches) - Win% : 53.90%
Virat Kohli - 65 (95 matches) - Win%: 70.43
Rahul Dravid - 42 (79 matches) - Win%: 56

Looking at above win%, Virat Kohli has the highest success ratio in ODIs among all other captains.

Virat Kohli despite not winning CT 2017 & WC 2019, has won 15 out of 19 bilateral ODI series as captain. 

Most wins as Indian captain in T20Is:
MS Dhoni - 42 (72 matches) - Win% : 59.28
Rohit Sharma - 39 (51 matches) - Win% : 76.47
Virat Kohli - 32 (50 matches) - Win% : 66.66

Comparing the above table, only the current Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has been more successful than Virat Kohli as captain in T20Is for India. 

Although Virat Kohli as skipper failed to win the T20 WC 2021 trophy, Indian team never lost a bilateral T20I series (min 3 matches played) under him.
