All-rounder Washington Sundar turned out to be a star performer as India secured a draw in the fourth Test against England in Manchester despite trailing by 311 runs in the first innings. After skipper Shubman Gill and Ravindra Jadeja’s centuries,, Sundar also went on to complete his maiden Test ton after which players from both the teams went on to shake hands for a draw.
After Sundar’s impressive performance in the Manchester Test, his father Mani Sundar slammed the BCCI and selectors for not giving regular chances to his son while other players keep getting regular chances. "Washington has been doing very well consistently. However, people tend to avoid and forget his performances. Other players get regular chances, only my son doesn't get them," M. Sundar said in his interview with Times of India.
My son was not selected for the first Test, the selectors should watch his performance: Washington Sundar’s father
Speaking further, Washington Sundar’s father said that he was surprised after his son was not picked for the first Test against England in Leeds. M Sundar also suggested that Washington Sundar should get regular chances to bat at number five for five to 10 matches regularly.
Washington should consistently bat at number five like he did in the second innings of the fourth Test and get five to ten straight chances. My son was surprisingly not picked for the first Test against England. The selectors should watch his performances," M Sundar said.
"My son gets dropped even if he fails in just one or two matches. It is not fair. Washington scored an unbeaten 85 on a rank turner in Chennai against England back in 2021 and 96* against the same opposition in Ahmedabad during the same year," he further said.
