Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Punjab Kings (PBKS) announced Wasim Jaffer as their batting coach for a second time ahead of IPL 2023. Jaffer, who was with Kings last year as well was delighted to get a second chance. The former India cricketer reacted to the piece of news in his typical style- sharing a meme.
Jaffer posted a clip from Bollywood movie Border wherein Sunny Deol says “Mai Wapas aaunga” and captioned it #IPL2023 with a wink-eye emoji. Meanwhile, his Twitter rival and former England captain Michael Vaughan tried to take a dig at Jaffer by reacting to the news of his appointment as PBKS’ batting coach.
“Someone who got out to me is a batting coach!!!!” tweeted Vaughan while quoting the news.
A reply from Jaffer was due and when it came, it took Twitter by storm. The former Indian batter shared a picture of Marvel hero Hulk offering ‘Burnol’ (used to treat burning sensation) which is also a synonym for aid for jealousy. Vaughan has not replied to Jaffer’s tweet as of now.
Coming to Punjab Kings, the franchise made some big changes to its management as well as the squad after consecutive failures. While Jaffer was appointed the batting coach, Charl Langeveldt has been roped in as fast bowling coach. Brad Haddin will act as the assistant coach to Trevor Bayliss who has replaced Anil Kumble at the helm of affairs.
Meanwhile, Shikhar Dhawan has been appointed as the new captain of the Punjab Kings with Mayank Agrawal not even on the retention list. The other notable changes to the squad include Odean Smith going out. None of their other releases were major players in their first XI last season, and Kings go into the IPL 2023 auction, slated for December 23, with the second-highest purse of INR 32.2 crore.
