The Ranji Trophy 2022-23 has begun after a successful Vijay Hazare Trophy. With several matches lined-up for the day, one of them which grabbed limelight is the one between Bengal and Uttar Pradesh. The two sides are locking horns are the Eden Gardens.
On Day 1 of the match between Bengal and Uttar Pradesh, a spectacular moment of fielding was produced. Wicketkeeper-batter Abishek Porel produced a brilliant piece of fielding. This incident happened in the 54th over of the match when all-rounder Shivam Mavi was facing Pritam Chakraborty. On the fifth ball of the 54th over, the bowler bowled a short ball with Mavi attempting a pull over his shoulders.
Mavi could only manage an edge as the ball flew towards the leg-side for the four. Between this, Abishek Porel flew towards left, going for a full-length dive to grab the ball. To add to this, Porel pulled off a brilliant Jonty Rhodes-esque catch.

Talking about the match, after Stumps on Day 2, Uttar Pradesh lead by 151 runs. After Bengal won the toss and opted to bowl first, they produced brilliant bowling on the back of Ishan Porel’s five-wicket haul in the first inning. UP were bundled out for 198/10 in 63.5 overs. Thereafter, Bengal got dismissed at the score of 169/10 in the 43.3 overs. After this Uttar Pradesh continued their dominance in the middle at they ended Day 2 with a score of 122/4.
