Andre Onana, the newest goalkeeping acquisition for Manchester United, conceded an embarrassing goal on his arrival at Old Trafford during a pre-season friendly against Lens, on August 5, Saturday. He was chipped from near the halfway line by Florian Sotoca to give the French club the 1-0 lead before half-time.

The 27-year-old signed to Manchester United this summer from Inter Milan, the UEFA Champions League finalists from last season, in a deal worth £47.2 million. With this big move, Andre Onana replaced David De Gea, who had served the Red Devils for 12 years as the first-choice goalkeeper.

On Saturday, before the play began, the club unveiled their newest signing at Old Trafford, Rasmus Hojlund, introducing him to the United Faithfuls. Manchester United made an electric start in front of their home fans in the first quarter of the game.  Mason Mount, another debutant at Old Trafford, had the best chance to put his team in front in the 16th minute, fluffing his lines to miss a simple tap, after Alejandro Garnacho found him inside the box with a lot of space.

Then, in the 23rd minute, Andre Onana, who was far out of his goal line, was lobbed by Florian Sotoca, after Diogo Dalot gave the ball away. The Cameroonian was visibly disappointed at giving away the goal like that while sitting inside the net and tightening his socks.

Moreover, after joining Manchester United, Andre Onana was quoted as saying, “To join Manchester United is an incredible honour and I have worked hard all my life to get to this moment, overcoming many obstacles along the way.”

“Walking out at Old Trafford to defend our goal and contribute to the team will be another amazing experience. This is the start of a new journey for me, with new teammates, and new ambitions to fight for,” he further added.
