Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese quarreled with each other again after 11 months. In the third quarter match played on May 17, Indiana Fever sharpshooter fouled Chicago Sky’s forward. The tension started within 30 minutes of the WNBA season opener. Reese shoved Fever forward Natasha Howard as she snatched an offensive rebound off a miss by Rebecca Allen. Reese kept the ball low and Clark fouled her before her rival could go for a shot. The push led the 23-year-old to the ground. Reese got up to confront Clark but her teammates and referee intervened to defuse the matter.
The referees went through the replays and delivered the verdict that Clark used her hand to push Reese to the floor. They penalised Clark by bettering the personal foul to a flagrant foul. Reese and Aliyah Boston were also handed technical fouls. Following Indiana's victory in the game, Clark spoke with ESPN and said her intentions weren't malevolent behind the push. "Nothing malicious about it, just a good take foul," remarked Clark.
The rivalry between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese reaches next level
Both Caitlin Clark and Reese had a fierce rivalry during their stint in women’s college basketball. Clark also talked about how important it is to beat rivals on the floor before the contest against Chicago. "Rivalries are real, and that's what makes sports so amazing. There's certain teams that those games just mean a little bit more. [We] come out here and play the same way every night, but [a rivalry] gets the fans involved, and they love it," remarked Clark in her conversation with ESPN.
Clark’s rivalry with Reese kicked off last year. She faced a series of fouls from Chicago Sky throughout the previous season. On June 16, 2024, Clark took a foul from Reese and grabbed the limelight.
