World No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka might have finished as runners-up in the recently concluded US Open 2023, but the Belarusian player have risen upto World No. 1 after Iga Swiatek was knocked out in a shocking defeat. The second-seeded, who will replace Swiatek once the latest rankings are released by the tennis authority, had succumbing to a 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 defeat to 19-year-old American star Coco Gauff.
However, all looked on the court but in a recent video doing rounds on social media proves that the 25-year-old was furious of her loss. The young star can be seen smashing her racquet on the ground with full force inside the dressing room in a sudden outburst of anger. Sabalenka might have fallen short in a three-set thriller in the ultimate clash for the US Open, but the 25-year-old has undeniably enjoyed one of the most outstanding seasons on the WTA Tour. Her first Grand Slam singles title came at the Australian Open 2023, followed by three singles titles overall, including her second victory at 1000 event in Madrid.
Sabalenka, who will end the season as World No. 1 in her post-match press conference also spoke it to be the only motivation after the loss. “It’s good that I can say I have been world no. 1, but I really would like to finish the year as World No. 1. That’s why I’m still positive and I’m still motivated,” she quoted.
