Ahead of this fixture, Pakistan skipper Babar Azam and pace spearhead Shaheen Afridi were spotted in the nets at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Notably, Babar Azam led Karachi Kings for seven editions of the tournament but will now lead Peshawar Zalmi in the upcoming PSL season. He had joined Peshawar as part of a major trade deal.

Addressing this trade, Azam expressed excitement and said, “It’s an honour for me to lead the franchise and I am excited about the new challenge. Peshawar Zalmi is one of the decorative franchises of the competition and has been consistent over the past few years.”

Besides PSL, Babar bagged the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for the ICC Men's Cricketer of the Year on Thursday. He scored 2598 runs in 44 matches at an average of 54.12 with eight centuries and 15 half-centuries in 2022. Babar was also included in the ICC Test Team of the Year for 2022 on Tuesday, while he was named captain of the ICC ODI Team of the Year for 2022.
