Former West Indies captain Brian Lara paid a visit to the dressing room of the Indian team after their three-run win against the West Indies in the first ODI. The left-handed wizard was seen talking to the current Indian captain Shikhar Dhawan and vice-captain Shreyas Iyer. Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal also joined the conversation later.

The Men in Blue started off the game in incredible fashion with captain Dhawan leading the way as he along with Shubman Gill posted 119 runs. The skipper scored 97 runs in 99 balls. Other than Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, and Deepak Hooda scored crucial runs to take the total to 308.

In reply, the hosts also had a great performance with the bat as Kyle Mayers and Brandon King scored 75 and 54, respectively. However, the Men in Maroon fell short by three runs in the end.

After the game, Shikhar Dhawan won the Player of the Match and assessed the team’s performance by saying, “Disappointed not to get the 100, but it was a good effort by the team. We got a good score in the end. There were nerves in the end and didn't expect it to turn that way.”

“We kept our cool and one small change in the end where we pushed the fine leg back and that really helped us. The discussion was to use the bigger side as much as we can and we want to keep on learning and make ourselves better for the rest of the competition,” he continued.
