Bruno Fernandes

Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes was given the responsibility to lead the Red Devils in the absence of regular skipper Harry Maguire and the Portuguese did a great job to lead his team to their first win this season. Man United beat Liverpool 2-1 to bring their first win in the third game. Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford did a terrific job to hit the back of Liverpool’s nets.

While Erik ten Hag was pumped up with the win, the fans were not too pleased with the on-field antics of Bruno Fernandes. The Red Devils' captain was slammed for not returning the ball back to Mohamad Salah after the latter scored a goal in the 81st minute of the play. After Salah found the net with a header Fernandes was the first to pick up the ball and the midfielder refused to hand it to the Egyptian.

Salah tried desperately to grab the ball but Bruno Fernandes palmed him away, indicating he would return the ball to the centre circle. The Portuguese almost got a second yellow card having been already booked for diving as the referee instead pushed Salah back. However, an irate Roberto Firmino then got involved and managed to hit the ball out of Fernandes' grasp.

But Bruno Fernandes was not going to stop there. He also tried to stop Salah from taking control of the ball on the floor. When the Reds’ star finally gained control, Fernandes faked injury claiming Salah had poked him in the eye. All this was done to waste the time.

While the referee did not find Fernandes’ actions obscene, the fans seemed livid. One of the users wrote “Bruno Fernandes defines the term ‘shithouse’” while sharing the video of the incident.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp also confronted Bruno after the final whistle and was seen having an animated conversation. However, Klopp then called it the “most harmless conversation he ever had with a player”.

"It was not animated it was the most harmless conversation I ever had with a player, who was obviously as emotional as I was. It was the situation with Martinez, who went down under an 'awful' tackle that was obviously nothing. He [Fernandes] made a bit of it, he was talking to me and saying, ‘you'd do the same’,” said Klopp in his post-match interview.
