Former NBA star Charles Barkley urged the NBA to sign the nine-year veteran and G Legauer Tony Snell in a standard contract. Snell, who last played in the 2021-22 season is currently on a hunt for a standard contract with an NBA team. After Yahoo Sports’ Jake Fischer wrote about Snell’s struggle, several pundits and former players stood up for him, including the NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barkley.
Notably, Snell is looking for an NBA contract that would earn him a 10th year of NBA, making him eligible for the National Basketball Players Association’s premium medical plan. It would help him cover the expenses of his household and the medical treatment of both his sons. His sons, Karter (3) and Kenzo (2), were diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder.
I hope one of you guys signs Tony: Charles Barkley
During the NBA Tip-Off, the 60-year-old requested any of the NBA teams to sign Snell for the remaining season. He said, "I read an article yesterday about Tony Snell (needing to be signed) by the end of this week because he's got two kids with autism and he needs to play to the end of the year to get a 10-year medical, to help him take care of his two autistic kids.”

Barkley continued, "The NBA has been great to all of us sitting up here and you guys are going to be playing basketball forever making a bazillion dollars. I hope one of you guys signs Tony so his two autistic kids can get great medical care." Barkley added, "I hope a team signs him for the rest of the season. I don't know a lot about autism, but I know it's got to be expensive to have two young kids with that situation so I'm hoping the NBA, we always talk about what a family we are, let's sign that kid for the rest of the season."
