In the sixth ODI of the women’s tri-series at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Chloe Tryon of South Africa took a hat-trick against hosts Sri Lanka, to help her team secure a comfortable 79-run victory, but it wasn’t enough for them to reach the final. The hat-trick happened in the latter stages of Sri Lankan innings during their pursuit of the 316-run target with Chloe Tryon being too strong for the tail-end batters of the hosts in front of their home fans.
It was the first ball of the 42nd over, with the Sri Lankan score reading 227/6, when left-arm spinner Chloe Tryon got into the act with the bat, dismissing right-handed Dewmi Vihanga, who’s attempt at a slog sweep was splendidly caught at the deep mick-wicket boundary by Nadine de Klerk. The next ball was a flighted delivery outside the off stump, which Sugandika Kumari could only mistime straight to backward point, where Nadine de Klerk took a simple catch.

The hat-trick ball from Chloe Tryon was a good length ball outside the off stump of right-handed Malki Madara, who slashed it to the wicketkeeper Sinalo Jafta, helping her take three wickets in three balls. Prior to her five-wicket haul, while conceding just 34 runs in eight overs with a maiden, Chloe Tryon also played an important part with the bat, scoring a valuable fifty when South Africa were in trouble at 127/6 in 29 overs.
Chloe Tryon scored valuble 74 apart from taking five-wicket haul vs Sri Lanka
Known for her power-hitting exploits, the South African right-handed batter shared a 112-run stand for the seventh wicket with the centurion Annerie Derckrsen before a partnership of 66 runs with Nadine de Klerk. The innings of 74 runs in just 51 balls with four fours and five sixes from Chloe Tryon was instrumental in taking South Africa to 315/9 in their allotted 50 overs before bowling out Sri Lanka for 239 runs in just 42.5 overs.
With just one win in their three matches in the women’s tri-series for South Africa, they failed to make the final of the tournament, which will be played between hosts Sri Lanka and India on Sunday, May 11.
