WATCH: Christopher Nkunku gets injured during training, ruled out of FIFA World Cup 2022

The highly anticipated FIFA World Cup 2022 is just four days away and defending champions France football team are facing trouble with their player's fitness as star forward Christopher Nkunku suffered a gruesome injury during a training session on Tuesday. The injury has ruled the RB Leipzig forward out of the Qatar World Cup 2022.

After already losing World Cup-winning players like N'Golo Kante and Paul Pogba due to injuries, France Football encountered another huge blow as the 25-year-old Nkunku has been ruled out of the FIFA World Cup 2022 with a leg injury.

During France's training session on Tuesday evening, Christopher Nkunku awkwardly twisted his leg while challenging teammate Eduardo Camavinga. The PSG Academy player, who fell down on the ground after the challenge, instantly signaled for assistance by the medical team and left the training field to receive treatment.

Later, France national team released a statement confirming that Nkunku will miss the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar. France football team wrote,  "Injured in training, Christopher Nkunku must give up participating in the World Cup. The whole group shares Christopher's sadness and wishes him a speedy recovery."

The 2018 FIFA World Cup winners, France are placed in the Group D alongside Australia, Denmark and Tunisia. The defending champions will begin their World Cup campaign against Australia on Tuesday next week.
