Los Angeles Clippers' shooting guard Amir Coffey has been taken under police custody after he was suspected of carrying a concealed firearm, reportedly a gun in Los Angeles. The 26-year-old was arrested early on Sunday in Hollywood, authorities confirmed later. The LA Clippers' player was in a vehicle which was caught by the local police for over speeding at 2:30 am, law enforcement told TMZ Sports.
As reported by the Los Angeles Police Officer Tony Im, Coffey was further released on his own recognizance from a county jail on USD 10,000 bail in the next four hours and is next scheduled to appear before the court on August 24. While the driver was fined for speeding, another passenger in the car received a misdemeanour for possession of marijuana, the Im reported.
However as quoted by TMZ Sports, Coffey admitted the possession of a gun, his team in a statement also added, "We're aware of a legal situation involving Amir Coffey ad are looking into it." It is further being reported that the six-foot-seven guard might face some sanctions from the NBA as the league reviews all matter of personal and criminal conduct and issues fine or suspension when deemed appropriate.
It is to be further noted that Coffey has been with Clippers for four seasons now and averages 5.5 points per game. He appeared in 50 games last season which included nine starts. However, his best came in 2021-22 when he played 69 games, averaging 9.0 points and 2.9 rebounds.
