CM Punk, who is currently on WWE’s injury list, made a surprise appearance after Monday Night Raw went off the air at the Honda Center in Anaheim. The Second City Saviour, who suffered a right triceps injury at the hands of Drew McIntyre during the men’s Royal Rumble match, has been a regular feature backstage on WWE shows since then.
Although CM Punk didn’t show up on WWE television, he walked out in front of a capacity crowd at the Honda Center shortly after Monday Night Raw closed out. With Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso inside the ring, the Voice of the Voiceless cut a heartfelt promo, hyping up the fans in Anaheim, who showed up in their numbers to watch the WWE performers deliver an incredible show for them.
The 45-year-old also promised that he will be performing inside the ring in front of the fans next time WWE comes to Anaheim. CM Punk said, “This (injury) is a bump in the road, and I promise you the next time we are in Anaheim, I will be here, and I will have my boots on.”
In the main event of WWE Raw, Jey Uso looked certain to dethrone the Intercontinental Champion Gunther from his perch, but when the referee counted the pinfall, Jimmy Uso ringed the bell to distract him. It led to Gunther escaping with his Intercontinental Championship after pinning Jey Uso with a lateral press move.
Cody Rhodes, who had brought Jey Uso to Raw from Smackdown last fall, was the first one to come out into the arena from backstage to console his friend, who had suffered a beating from his own flesh and blood.
