During the last over of CSK’s batting innings against RCB, MS Dhoni walked out to the rousing reception of fans at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. They chanted “Dhoni…Dhoni” as the skipper of Chennai entered the field. In his short innings, MSD played a single delivery from Glenn Maxwell and heaved it towards the wide long-on fielder for one run.

Chennai Super Kings ended up putting 226/6 on the board from their alloted 20 overs with key contributions from Devon Conway and Shivam Dube, who scored 83(45) and 52(47) respectively. Ajinkya Rahane got a breezy 37 off 20 deliveries while taking the attack to RCB bowlers inside the powerplay.

In the bowling innings, CSK started wonderfully as the two young Indian fast bowlers, namely Akash Singh and Tushar Deshpande picked up a wicket each in their first over. But then the RCB captain Faf Du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell got together and stitched a 126 run partnership in 10.1 overs to put the hosts ahead of the required run rate. Maheesh Theekshana got the prize wicket of Maxwell who scored a fiery 76 off 36 deliveries with 3 fours and 8 sixes.

Shortly afterwards, Faf Du Plessis got out for 62(33) and the hosts started to stumble once again. Dinesh Karthik kept Royal Challengers in the hunt with 28(14) but it wasn’t enough as Super Kings went on to win the match by 8 runs.

In the post match presentation, MS Dhoni talked about the conditions at the M.A. Chinnaswamy Stadium and the challenge it poses to batters and bowlers alike. He said, “When you come to Bangalore, it’s a good wicket. Early part of IPL you get a lot of dew. You want to start well and then alter whatever is there in your mind. It was slightly tacky at the start. It’s important to go through that and then look to accelerate. We kept it simple and tried to as much as possible in the second half of the innings.”
