The 15th edition of the Indian Premier League is around the corner, and excitement has started building up for the upcoming season. The MS Dhoni-led side will lock horns with Shreyas Iyer-led Kolkata Knight Riders on March 26 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The Chennai franchise has started its practice session in Surat, Gujrat.
In a recently shared video clip posted by the official Twitter handle of Chennai Super Kings, Dhoni and teammates were seen having quality time on the ground by engaging in a footvolley game. In the clip, Dhoni showcased his footvolley skills as players prepared for the forthcoming season. The Yellow Army recently reached Surat for their 20-days practice session in Surat at Lalbhai Contractor Stadium. The Chennai franchise had shifted their net sessions to Surat as the pitch at Lalbhai Contractor Stadium was made of soil from Mumbai. The pitches have a lot of resemblance to the Mumbai pitch due to which Chennai management decided to hold a practice session in Surat.

The tournament will have 55 league matches in Mumbai, and 15 matches will be hosted in Pune. Defending champions CSK will begin their title defence in IPL 2022 opening fixture against Kolkata Knight Riders at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on March 26.
Under Dhoni's leadership, CSK won the IPL 2021 season, their fourth title overall, by beating KKR in the summit clash by 27 runs. This time around, they have strengthened their squad with new additions in Devon Conway, Adam Milne, Chris Jordan, Shivam Dube, etc. The Chennai franchise is part of Group B, including Sunrisers Hyderabad, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Punjab Kings and Gujarat Titans. The defending champions will play two league matches against all Group B teams, two against Mumbai Indians and one against the rest of the teams in the lead-up to the playoffs.
