World Cup winner Lionel Messi scored a stunning last minute free kick to bring home a win for Inter Miami in the newly founded Leagues Cup. As Beckham watched the Miami franchise fans celebrate the goal, he was overcome with emotion and began to tear up a little. This was captured on video and shared on Twitter where it made waves with US football fans online.

Messi came off the bench to score a 25-yard free kick over the wall. In a way it was the perfect debut for the Argentine, who showed off his iconic free kick ability in front of thousands of cheering Miami fans. A moment 10 years in t he making

David Beckham’s road to co-owning Inter Miami began in earnest when the Galactico hung up his boots in 2013. Given an option to purchase an MLS franchise for USD 25 million when he signed with LA Galaxy, he was identified as a potential owner of a Miami based franchise in late 2013. Miami needed a representative club since the Miami Fusion folded in the early 2000s.

In 2018, the Miami Beckham group with David Beckham, Simon Fuller, Masayoshi Son, and Marcelo Claure was awarded the 25th MLS franchise. Inter Miami has worked for a long time to make a deal with Messi a reality, and the groundwork reportedly took years to turn into reality.
