Uruguay defeated Ghana 2-0 in their final group stage clash in the FIFA World Cup 2022, however, failed to qualify for the Round of 16 after managing an equal goal difference with South Korea, who defeated Portugal 2-1 on Friday. After the full-time whistle, Valencia star Edinson Cavani angrily pushed the pitch-side VAR screen on the ground while moving down the tunnel.

South Korea defeated Portugal 2-1 as Hueng-Min Son provided a stoppage time assist to confirm his team's qualification in the Round of 16. Both, South Korea and Uruguay finished the group stage with four points and a 0 goal difference, but the Taegeuk Warriors scored more goals in the group stage to book their qualification.

Uruguay defeated Ghana 2-0 and needed just one more goal to qualify for the knockouts as it could help them overtake the Korea Republic on goal difference. During the match,  La Celeste were denied a penalty review for Alidu Seidu's tackle on forward Darwin Nunez, which grew the frustration among the Uruguayan players. While moving down the tunnel after the final whistle into the game, former Man United striker Edinson Cavani shoved the VAR screen to show his dissent with the officials.
