After failing to qualify for the NBA Playoffs in the last season, Los Angeles Lakers have continued their struggles to win the games in the ongoing regular season as the Purple and Gold outfit have registered just two victories in their opening 10 fixtures. However, LeBron James is expected to surpass former Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in NBA all-time leading scorer.

The four-time NBA champion, LeBron James entered the 2022-23 NBA season with a grand total of 37,062 regular-season points in his career, which is just 1,325 points behind the scoring leader Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (38,387 points).

The 37-year-old has scored 219 points after playing nine games in his 20th season and is currently just 1,106 points away to break the 33-year-old record set by legendary Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. However, former Lakers center John Salley believes that the league won't allow James to break the legendary record.

While talking on Shannon Sharpe’s podcast, Salley said, "I think they’re not going to let him get it." He added, "You’re going to be really mad…Phil Jackson once told me: ‘Some records need to stand.’"

On October 28, the Lakers faced a nine-point loss against Minnesota Timberwolves, however, the legendary power forward surpassed Karl Malone for most 20-point games in the history of the NBA regular season. At his career scoring average of 27.1 PPG, James would need 41 games to surpass the Lakers legend.
