In his first theatrical release since the pandemic, Abhishek Bachchan plays the role of an ex-cricketer turned coach to a specially abled Saiyami Kher in the upcoming movie titled “Ghoomer.” The movie is directed by R Balki, with whom the Bollywood actor had earlier collaborated to create a masterpiece alongside his father Amitabh Bachchan named, “Paa.”
The trailer of Ghoomer dropped earlier on August 4, which begins with Abhishek Bachchan asking a question, "Can someone with one hand, play for the country, logically?”, before answering “no.” Then, the actor goes on to say, “Life is not a game of logic, it is a game of magic.”

The character of Saiyami Kher gets introduced moments later, named Anina, who aspires to be an Indian cricketer, and then, reaches the pinnacle of the sport. However, her life changes upside down as she gets involved in an accident, losing her right hand in the process and getting suicidal thoughts due to it.
Only the emergence of Abhishek Bachchan’s character brings her out of the downward spiral to start her journey of making her return to the Indian team as a specially-abled cricketer. The story of Ghoomer is inspired by Karoly Takacs, who went on to win gold medals in Olympics with his left hand after overcoming a severe injury to his right hand.
Shabana Azmi is playing the role of Saiyami Kher’s mother, while Angad Bedi is her love interest in the movie. The fans will be able to see the special cameo role from Amitabh Bachchan too. Ghoomer is set to hit the theatres on August 18, Friday after premiering at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne 2023 at Hoyts, Docklands as per Indian Express.
