What a day the Indian weightlifters are having at the Commonwealth Games 2022. While Sanket Sargar won the country's first medal at the Birmingham Games in the Men's 55 kg weightlifting, Gururaja Poojary ensured India another medal as soon as he bettered his previous of 148 kg in the Clean And Jerk round. He successfully managed to lift a total of 151 kg to assure the nation of another medal in the competition this time in the Men's 61 Kg weightlifting.

Apart from his 151 kg in the clean and jerk round, Poojary had successfully lifted 118 Kg in the snatch round which has taken his total tally to 269 kgs. Eventually, Gururaja clinched the bronze medal for India with Malaysia’s Aznil Muhamad bagging the gold medal with a massive lift of 285kg.

It is a sport of small margins they say. While Sargar had lost the gold medal by a margin of 1 kg, Poojary beat Canada’s Youri Simard by the same margin to win the bronze. India are expected to win more medals in the day with runaway favourite Mirabai Chanu already making her intentions clear of breaking her own world record.
