The first T20I between India and New Zealand was called off due to persistent rain. Even a flip of the coin could not take place and the fans had to go back disappointed. The players, meanwhile, made the most of the time as they enjoyed a game of football. Players from both camps came together to enjoy a casual game of football inside the stadium.

While Tim Southee, Ish Sodhi, and Blair Tickner came from the New Zealand camp, Yuzvendra Chahal and Sanju Samson joined them from the Indian squad. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared the clip of the players enjoying the game.

Coming back to the T20I series, as the first match was washed away, now either it can end in a tie with both teams winning a game each or either India or New Zealand win both games to take the series home. The next game of the series is scheduled to take place in Mount Maunganui on 20 November (Sunday).

Both teams suffered heartbreaks at the T20 World Cup 2022 as they were knocked out of the biennial event after losing in the semifinals. While New Zealand lost to Pakistan, India were thrashed by England. There were plenty of issues for both teams to address and it will start with this series. While New Zealand will look to work on their bowling a bit and Kane Williamson’s approach towards the game, India are eyeing a complete overhaul.

Hardik Pandya, who has been given the responsibility to lead the team on this tour, is being touted to take over the reins from Rohit Sharma in T20Is. Meanwhile, a few more major changes are on the cards.
