India took on New Zealand in the final ODI of the three-match series here on Tuesday (24 Jan). New Zealand skipper, Tom Latham won the toss and invited India to bat first. The Men in Blue cordially accepted the invitation and made the most of the assistance from the pitch. The opening pair of Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma made life tough for New Zealand bowers in the middle as they added 212 runs for the first wicket.

Both batters scored centuries. While Sharma got out immediately after scoring his 30th ODI century, Gill scored 112 runs off 78 balls. After these two departed, Virat Kohli and Ishan Kishan took the charge for India. Both batters tried to build up a partnership while maintaining the scoring rate as well. Kohli, in particular, looked to attack and scored runs at a quick rate. Meanwhile, Kishan was finding it a bit tough in the middle.

The pair was looking good until a mix-up resulted in Kishan’s wicket. In fact, the youngster sacrificed his wicket for the senior. The incident took place in the 35th over of India’s innings when Kishan was trying to sneak in a single against Jacob Duffy. On the third ball of the over, Duffy bowled a good-length delivery which Kishan played with a straight bat. The ball rolled towards the short cover fielder.

Both batters were looking for a single and left their respective crease. However, with the ball going straight to the fielder, Kishan pulled away in the middle. Meanwhile, Kohli continued running towards the striker’s end. Kishan, who was going back to his crease decided against going to the crease so that his senior partner can survive.
