The whole of India is currently cheering for the Indian contingent who are gearing up for the Tokyo Olympics. Team India has sent their largest-ever contingent to the Summer Games and all eyes will be on the athletes performance come July 23. And now prior to the marquee event, Kolkata's iconic Howrah Bridge illuminated on Monday to cheer up for team in the Japanese capital. It is also being learned that some of the athletes have already begun training prior to the curtain-raiser.

The video of the Bridge lighting up the Games is doing the rounds on internet. The video was originally shared by the Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata on its official social media handle and has since then gone viral.

"Today Howrah Bridge or Rabindra Setu dazzles in colours, representing the confluence of the world's greatest athletes from the five continents at the Tokyo Olympic Games. Global excitement has transcended borders. Different nationalities, ethnicities, cultures and values are united by emotion together everywhere. Blue, Yellow, Black, Green and Red the five interlaced rings at the Olympic symbol epitomise the union of Europe, the Americas, Africa, Asia and Australia," a voice over in the video says.

"Japan, the land of the rising sun, opens its arms to more than 11,000 athletes from all over the world, fostering a safe and healthy environment for every athlete to do their personal best. Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata joins the nation in wishing grand success to the Olympic Games and the very best to the Indian contingent consisting of the country's finest athletes," it adds.

While shuttlers PV Sindhu and Sai Praneeth have started training in Tokyo, paddlers Sharath Kamal and Sathiyan Gnanasekaran also began their training and were spotted at the table tennis arena. Moreover, the rowing and sailing teams have also started their last-minute preparations.

Notably, six-time world champion Olympic medallist MC Mary Kom and men’s hockey team captain Manpreet Singh will carry the India tri-colour in the opening ceremony of the games on Friday. The Summer Games will culminate on August 8.
