Indian football legend and captain Sunil Chhetri will retire from international football after the Blue Tigers' FIFA World Cup 2026 Qualifying match against Kuwait on June 6. Ahead of India vs. Kuwait, Croatia captain and Real Madrid legend Luka Modric shared a heartfelt video message where he praised the 29-year-old Chhetri.

Luka Modric recently won his sixth UEFA Champions League title with Real Madrid after Los Blancos defeated Borussia Dortmund 2-0 in the final at the Wembley Stadium on Saturday.

On May 16, Chhetri announced the match against Kuwait will be his last international game. Modric paid tribute to Chhetri in a video message shared by India head coach Igor Stimac. Modric said, "Hello Sunil, I just want to wish you all the best in your last game with your national team. Congratulations on your career, you are a legend of the game. I hope your teammates will make your last game special and unforgettable. Good luck and all the best regards from Croatia!"

While sharing the video on his X handle, Stimac thanked Modric and wrote, "Thank you Luka 💙 We will do everything in our power to make our country and our captain proud "

India are scheduled to host Kuwait at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan Stadium in Kolkata on June 6 followed by their away fixture against Qatar on June 11.
