It turned out to be an intense game between Indian Grandmaster D Gukesh and World number one Magnus Carlsen in the Norway Chess championship in Stavanger on Sunday, June 1. It was one of the most heartbreaking defeats in Carlsen's career against the reigning champions Gukesh has been in a great form from the last one year. After dominating throughout the round six of the tournament, Carlsen went on to make a blunder against Gukesh.

It was looking like Magnus Carlsen couldn’t accept his defeat as he was seen punching the table in frustration after the last move. On the other hand, Gukesh secured a commanding victory in the sixth round against Carlsen and took full advantage of a blunder made by the Norwegian chess grandmaster. As Carlsen was seen frustrated with the loss, Gukesh also took a moment to soak up the victory. Apart from that, despite the anger, Carlsen also showed sportsman spirit and gave a pat on Gukesh's back.

99 out of 100 times I would lose: D Gukesh on commanding victory over Magnus Carlsen

After the match, D Gukesh didn’t shy away accepting that it turned out to be a lucky day for him and he would have ended up losing on such occasions 99 out of 100 times.

“I was just trying to play moves that were tricky for him and luckily he got into time scramble. One thing I learnt from this tournament is that time scrambles can get too much out of control,” Gukesh was quoted as saying by India Today.

“99 out of 100 times I would lose. Just a lucky day,” the Indian Grandmaster further added.
