The Manchester United forward, Marcus Rashford, scored a wonder goal against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium in the first half of their ongoing derby in the Premier League. The 26-year-old aimed from more than 25 yards to find the back of the net after the ball had crashed in off the crossbar, while the goalkeeper Ederson was a mere spectator.
The goal in the eighth minute of the derby on the counterattack from Marcus Rashford put Manchester United ahead in enemy territory, a cushion they desperately needed to compete well against a highly attacking Manchester City team. The entire first half had a simple theme which saw United defend for their lives deep in their defensive third, facing constant attacking threats from City.
At the end of the first half of the Manchester derby, Erling Haaland had an open goal at his mercy, but he managed to put the cross from Phil Foden over the bar. With that, Manchester United went into the break with a 1-0 lead over Manchester City, with the second half promising to be a thrilling spectacle.
Earlier in the week, Marcus Rashford had asked the fans to not question his commitment to Manchester United after he had faced a few disciplinary issues in the recent past. He was quoted as saying, in an open letter, “I’m not a perfect person. When I make a mistake, I’ll be the first one to put my hand up and say that I need to do better. But if you ever question my commitment to Man United, that’s when I have to speak up.”
